De Courcey Albion went down 2-1 today to Bohemians, the Knocknaheeny side from the Premier Division in Round 1 of the AOH Cup. Albion looked the stronger of the 2 teams in the opening 20 minutes & made the most of their posession when some nice passing from Declan Murray to Rob Daly to Conan Dillon & on to James O’Driscoll had the midfielder showing his supreme skill as he burst through 3 players and fired home from the edge of the box to put the home side 1 up. Albion defended extremely well with the help of the excellent Michael Walsh between the sticks and kept the score at 1-0 to half time.
Bohs came out with all guns blazing when their right winger dribbled past 2 Albion players and crossed the ball which was finished well by their striker. The turning point of the game came when 2 Bohs players ran into each other and had to go off with blood injuries. Having used all their subs Bohs went down to 9 players. Albion threw everyone forward but it backfired when Bohs got a dodgy free kick & finished to make it 2-1. Questionable refereeing had Albion furious as John Hipwell was blatantly fouled in the area & at the final whistle the referee had only played 35 minutes.
The few positives Albion can take out of the game was their 1st half performance against a team 3 divisions higher than them & the 1st Half defending which was strong & resiliant.
